Back to School

Well I am now back at school for a new semester. Which is exciting because there are a lot of changes  that have occurred since last semester. I have a new roommate which makes me both excited and nervous at the same time. I don't think I should worry though and so far it going well. I live in a suite with 7 other people so there is always someone around to do things with (most of the time that is just sitting around on Tumblr for hours.).  We are a comical bunch and sometimes I feel like we should have our own reality show. I'm so glad that I meet these people this year as they have become really good friends who I missed greatly over winter break.

I am looking forward to this semester, even though it is going to be a busy one (18 credits. yikes). It might be challenging at times but I know that I will be able to do. I actually work better when I have more to do. I am determined to make this semester the best yet and I hope that it comes filled with adventures and meeting great new people.

Silver Lining

The other day I got a chance to see the movie Silver Lining Playbook. A film described by many as a dark comedy staring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence as the two leads. Along with various others including Robert Di Nero, Jacki Weaver, and Chris Tucker.

I went into this film with high expectations, having the knowledge that this film was nominated for eight oscars.

1. Best Achievement In Directing: David O. Russell
2. Best Motion Picture of the Year
3. Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Roll: Bradley Cooper
4. Best Performance by an Actor is a Supporting Roll: Robert De Niro
5. Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Roll: Jennifer Lawrence
6. Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Roll: Jacki Weaver
7. Best Achievement in Editing
8. Best Adapted Screenplay: David O. Russell

I thought that this film was excellently executed. To be a part of the production of a film like this one, where the mood shifted from comical to extremely serious had got to be a challenge. In that way the film mirrored Bradley Cooper's character Pat who was learning how to deal and live with being bipolar. However I have come to the conclusion that I would be really surprised if they won everything category that they were nominated in. I feel that it was just not up to par with some of the other films that have also been nominated.

Throughout the film the concept of excelsior and the idea that there is always a silver lining is repeated quite often. I think that is the part of the film that I connected to the most, because I believe in always looking at the positive side of life. Things might not be going exactly the way you want them to but it will turn around and things will get better. I think by looking on the bright side or believing that life has a silver lining helps you strive to be the best version of yourself.

I would definitely see this movie again and would totally recommend it to anyone who likes a good story. Have you seen Silver Lining Playbook? What did you think? If not which movies have you seen recently that you would recommend. I always love to watch new movies!

Brown Bag It

I have been looking around for a long time for a new bag that I would be able to use everyday. Today I found this bag in Target.

It retailed for $33 and is a new arrival at the store. It is a medium brown, more specifically Camel with  gold hardware. This bag is not real leather and does not contain real gold. I love the simplicity combined with being large enough to actually hold things without feeling overwhelmingly big.  Another part of the bag that I enjoy is that it can be carried with the handles or with the longer strap. I love the color brown for everyday bags because it goes with so much in my closet and doesn't feel so dark and over dressy like i find black bags sometimes do. Hopefully this will last me for the rest of the winter and through the spring.

what do you think do you prefer to have a colored bag or neutral colored bag?

Do What You Love

If money was not an issue what would you be doing?

I watched a video earlier that one of my friends posted on Facebook, that talked about doing what you love to do. And how if we love something enough that you should do it and not worry about makeing money. The video went on to convey that you will be a whole lot happier doing something you absolutely love than doing something that you think is just alright.

Now as it happens I have recently been thinking a lot about the future and what I am supposed to do with my life. I have been having this internal thought process about doing what I love which is creating and working it into be successful in society's standards. But isn't being happy and enjoying life and the things you do part of being successful? Enjoying what you do seems impossible to me until I see people who love what they are doing be successful. In between watching that first video and now I watched John and Hank Green preform at Carnegie Hall and it occurred to me that ultimately what got them there was doing what they loved. They write books and songs and make videos about things they like and are passionate about and collaborate with others that are just as passionate about these things as they are. I find that I often admire people like John and Hank Green who put so much passion and energy into doing things that you can not help but get excited about them as well. (Even if you have no idea what they are talking about. This often happens to me when people talk in depth about science and math stuff.)

So, when I ask myself the question of what would I be doing if money wasn't an issue there were a whole list of things that pop into my head. The overall theme of everything on this list is CREATE. I feel like that in a way that answer is cheating though. Saying I want to create things could mean a great deal of different things. But how am I supposed to narrow it down when there is so much you can do. I know that ultimately being creative is what I want to do with my life. Now all I have to do is to figure out which way or ways I want to do it. But i feel like figuring that out takes time. Time to experiment and experience and I think that is a good way to spend my time.

Here is the the video about doing what you love:
